Eyelash Extensions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Eyelash Extensions?

Classic eyelash extensions is a method where an individual eyelash extension is adhered to one natural lash with an adhesive, to create a fuller, longer yet natural look to your own lashes.

What is the procedure?

After your consultation with your lash stylist to decide the look you want to achieve, the lash area is cleansed and then prepped with tape to hold down the lower lashes and protectthe surrounding eye area. You will be lying down with both eyes closed for the procedure.  Extensions will then be hand added one by one to your own natural lashes. The procedure is completely pain free.  Once completed, the tape will be gently removed, lashes are brushed and set. Your new lashes are now ready to be previewed!

How long do they last?

With proper care, eyelash extensions can last up to 4-6 weeks. Lash extensions will gradually fall out with the growth of the natural lashes. To maintain fullness, a refill is suggested every 2-3 weeks.

Can I get them wet?

You must wait 48 hours before exposing your new lash extensions to water as the adhesive needs to fully cure.  After 48 hours, your lash extensions will be waterproof, smudge proof and flake proof. You'll be able to get shower, swim and sweat without ruining your new lashes!

Can I still wear eye makeup?

Yes. Waterbased/ Oil free makeup removers should be used. Any product that is oil based will break down the bonding agent in the adhesive and result in lashes to fall off quicker than expected.

Do I need to do anything prior to my procedure?

Please do not wear any eye makeup and do not wear contacts during the procedure. Contacts should be removed prior to procedure.

What is the maintenance for my new lashes?

Taking care of your new lash extensions is relatively simple. We suggest you brush your lashes twice a day with the dry mascara comb (that we provide) and to not use any oil based product on the lash area.

How do I remove my lash extensions?

You must not pick the lashes off as this can cause damages to your natural lashes.  To remove the lashes, a special remover must be used by a professional, so please book an appointment with your Beauty&Brow Bar lash stylist.

Is it safe?

Yes, our client's safety is a priority. All tools and equipment  are sanitized and sterilized before and after each treatment, and we maintain a sanitary environment.  Adhesive ingredients contain: Ethyl Cyanoacrylate, Ethoxyethyl Cyanoacrylate, Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA) , Carbon Black. Although allergic reactions are rare, it is a possibility.  An allergy patch test is not mandatory, but suggested. Allergy patch test should be done 24-48 hours prior.

Will it damage my own lashes?

When applied properly, there should be no damages.  Each lash extension will be applied to each individual natural lash to allow it's natural lash growth cycle.

HOW DO I CLEAN EYELASH EXTENSIONS – STEP BY STEP

1.Remove all eye-makeup using an oil and glycol-free makeup remover such as BLINK. If taking off eyeliner, use a cotton tip dipped in remover and wipe it across your lid, or away from the lid. Never towards the extensions. Don’t use cotton balls as you’ll get into a furry mess, as they will catch on the bases of the extensions.

2. If you are wearing heavy foundation, remove this too before washing eyes, using your cleanser of choice but AVOIDING the eye area. Some cleansers contain oil, particularly cream cleansers and ‘cleansing oils’ (dah!)

3. Wet your eyes with cool water. Take a very, very small amount of a lash shampoo  and lather it up on your palm. Apply this to both eyes, one at a time, splashing it over them. 3. Don’t rub them like you’re washing hair though; just gently splash it over your closed eyes. If your eyes still feel grubby, repeat.

4. Rinse it off and dab them gently dry. It doesn’t matter if they are a little damp, stuck together with water etc., when you brush them they will re-separate.

5.  Use your lash wand to very gently twirl through them and fan them back out.

Do this 2-3 times per week.

Eyelash Extension Aftercare Information

The eyelash cycle is approximately four to six weeks.  Do not be alarmed if some of your lashes fall out quickly (they most likely were at the end of their cycle).  The majority of extensions will stay through a complete cycle if you follow these guidelines:

Your natural eyelashes should not get wet for a minimum of two hours;  48 hours would be ideal to allow the adhesive properly to bond to a dry eyelash (soggy eyelashes do not make for a good adhesion).  A dry washcloth can be rolled up and placed over your brows when you shower to protect your extensions from becoming totally saturated.

Do not use regular or waterproof mascara.

Most brands of mascara contain chemical properties and oils that will break down the adhesive.  Removing mascara from your lashes can cause the extensions to fall off prematurely as well.  If you want to further enhance your lash extensions, we have a specially formulated eyelash extension mascara that is ideal for coating your extensions.  Ask your lash stylist for more information.

Take special care around the eye area when cleansing your face. Gently cleanse the eye area and do not scrub or rug your eyes.  Avoid any type of oil-based product around the eyes.  Again, the oils will break down the adhesive and cause the extensions to fall off.  Resuming with normal activities is ok (i.e. - face washing).  When possible, it is best to wait up to 12 hours.

Never use a clamp-style eyelash curler on your extensions.

This can permanently damage not only the extensions, but your natural eyelashes as well.  Eyelash combs are great for grooming your lashes every morning.

Adhesives are cured by moisture, however, by avoiding extreme variation of heat, humidity, and cold weather (i.e. – hot showers, saunas, zero degree weather), your extensions can last longer.  Normal activities like swimming, can resume after the appointment (more)
